Many businesses quote a price that already includes VAT, such as R1,150 for a service. With Prices include VAT on, you type that price and Rebill works out the VAT inside it, so the total on the invoice is exactly the amount you typed.
VAT-registered accounts only
The switch only appears once your account is VAT-registered, which means a VAT number in Settings > Account > Business details. VAT features need a Premium plan.Using VAT-inclusive prices on a document
- 1
Open the invoice, quote or recurring invoice form
Create a new document or edit an existing one. The Prices include VAT switch sits at the top of the Line items card. - 2
Switch on "Prices include VAT"
The price column changes to Price (incl. VAT). Prices you have already typed keep their number and are now read as VAT-inclusive. Items you add from your catalogue have VAT added to their catalogue price, because catalogue prices are stored excluding VAT. (On the item form you can still type a VAT-inclusive price by choosing Enter price inclusive of VAT under Price entry mode; Rebill stores the exclusive amount.) - 3
Check the totals
The summary panel shows a Total excl. VAT row above the VAT, so you can see how the total splits before you save.

How the VAT is worked out
Rebill adds up the VAT-inclusive amounts for each VAT rate and takes the tax fraction of that total: at 15%, the VAT is 15/115 of the inclusive amount, rounded to the nearest cent. The amount excluding VAT is what remains, so the printed total always equals what you typed.
For example, a line of R100.00 including VAT at 15% carries R13.04 VAT (100 × 15 ÷ 115 = 13.043, rounded to 13.04) and R86.96 excluding VAT. Zero-rated and exempt lines carry no VAT.
Rounding on new documents
Invoices, quotes and purchase orders created from 6 October 2026 round each figure half up to the nearest cent, and VAT is worked out once per VAT rate on the rounded amount. Older documents keep the totals they were created and sent with. Editing an older document only changes its totals when you change something that affects the price, such as a quantity, price, discount or the price mode.Tip
Switching a document from inclusive to exclusive prices keeps the numbers you typed and adds VAT on top of them, so check the total after switching.
